Thank you for choosing the Heart Imaging Center for your exam. Our trained professional staff will insure that your experience is pleasant.

Please help us by noting the following:

Before your scan

  • Nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours
  • Take your usual medications with small sips of water
  • No caffeine for 12 hours
The day of your scan
  • Be sure to follow instructions for pre-scan medication and arrival time at our Center
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing without metal
  • Plan to be with us for approximately one hour
What to expect
  • Following registration, you will wait in a comfortable area
  • EKG leads, oxygen monitoring probe and blood pressure cuff will be placed
  • Baseline vital signs will be obtained
  • Your vital signs will be regularly monitored
  • An IV will be started in your arm. This is needed for the contrast that will be administered during the scan
  • You will be taken into the scan room and settled comfortably on the table
  • Oxygen may be administered for your comfort
  • The technologist will instruct you and practice the necessary breath-holding patterns of 10 to 20 seconds
  • Localizing images will be taken. The table moves during the scan
  • The cardiac scan is done during a single short breath-hold while the contrast is injected
  • A normal warm feeling is experienced during the contrast injection
  • You will be in the scan room, on the table for about10-20 minutes
After the scan
  • Your blood pressure and heart rate will be monitored Provided your vital signs are stable, you will be discharged
  • Please do not plan any strenuous activities for the remainder of the day. You may return to work the following day
  • Please continue to take your usual medications unless otherwise instructed by your doctor
  • Please drink lots of liquids to help your kidneys flush out the contrast
Result
  • Following your scan, data will be processed
  • Our Cardiac Imaging Specialists will interpret the scan
  • A detailed report will be sent to your doctor
