Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) Medicare Information Effective November 27, 2006
Medicare approved uses of Coronary CT Angiography (CCTA) include:
- Signs or symptoms of coronary artery disease (chest pain, angina, anginal equivalent, newly abnormal EKG). CCTA may precede stress testing or be used to clarify a non-diagnostic or equivocal stress test.
- Symptomatic or asymptomatic patients at high cardiovascular risk (e.g., left ventricular systolic dysfunction of unknown etiology, diabetes).
- Recurrent symptoms following stent placement or CABG to guide the decision for repeat invasive evaluation.
- Anatomic assessment of coronary artery grafts prior to repeat coronary surgery.
- Coronary artery assessment prior to non-coronary cardiovascular surgery.
- Anatomic evaluation before or after therapeutic electrophysiology procedures.
- Suspected aortic dissection or injury.
- Suspected congenital anomalies of the coronary circulation of the great vessels.
- Coronary artery evaluation following technically inadequate cardiac catheterization.
- Coronary artery anatomy following heart transplantation.
